An electrical filter does not consume energy

For example the EMI RS106A inductor capacitor filter. In fact it has pairs of inductors capacitors connected for each cutoff frequency.

Other example is using a capacitor and inductor for a particular cutoff frequency.

Or just an inductor in series with a variable resistance for a possibly variable slope Pleiades filter.

All these filter do not consume energy. And they do not need make up gain.

They can be even connected right at the output of a 200Ω mic.

There may be some noise using the RS106A as it may not be balanced.
