It can be a quiet clock ticking nearby.
Or a louder ticking clock in an adjacent room.
Listening to the setup is normally with headphones. Always be careful when using headphones for protecting ears. There are many things that can go wrong. Feedbaxk for example.
On a good setup the clock can be heard with the minimum possible hiss.
