Shure Unidyne B 515SD with Pleiades (130Ω,40mH) perception filter

Excellent sound at 2-4in.

Just a resistance of 130Ω in series with a coil of 40mH connected to pins 2.3. See also next post.

The excessive bassiness is not there anymore. Very clear, natural sound with great treble.

Signal path, setup:

Shure Unidyne B Mexico - Pleiades (130Ω,40mH) - Sony TC-D5 Pro - Sennheiser HD580

130Ω,40mH were chosen more or less by chance. The sound can be tailored according to exact circumstances. It is easy to vary R. Not so easy to vary L. And not very easy to make a coil each time.

An interesting patent by W. Stanley US349,611 should show a way to deform the ring core so that its ends (in case of air gap) get closer thereby adjusting inductance.

So by adjusting R, L one can get closer to the ideal of flat frequency response from producer's brain to listener's brain. See also the classic D. P.  Lowe, K. F. Morgan, Sound Picture Recording and reproducing characteristics - JSMPE
