Going to a Town - George Michael
Producer Phil Ramone can be seen at 0:54, 0:57 etc.
The iPad while watching this is connected directly from headphones out to the 2 Pleiades Auratone 5C type speakers. Very nice sound.
The piano at the beginning of verse plays harmonic chain. Or rather chords are derived from harmonic chain.
The key is E minor so all notes white except F which is F sharp.
Bass is assumed to go from A to D to G to C ... (harmonic chain), bass increases in intervals of 4.
Right hand on piano plays from left to right E A C.
C is prepared seventh for the next chord:
D bass D F C (the 3rd added) the 3rd now becomes prepared 7th for next chord:
G bass D F B (the added third B now becomes the prepared 7th for next chord:
C bass E G B
So bass code is
A
D7
G7
C7
The least principle of change in music is used, so it is:
Bass Harmony
A E A C
D D F C
G D F G
C C E B
The last 2 chords happen to be major sevenths
Remember all F are sharp:
