At your risk.
There is a brilliant recording of a simple Granton Glockenspiel found in a forum refered to on a previous post. Recording is with a Blumlein stereo Lustraphone ribbon microphone.
On the Granton Glockenspiel which has arrived recently sustain is very low.
For what is worth it has been found that the problem lies on the stiffened over the years rubber tube support of the metal bars. As well as the zig zag path of this stiffened rubber.
Neoprene tube of similar size has been found to work beautifully.
The impact Tak Tak sound is decreased. At the same time sustain is increased at least 2 to 3 times.
The neoprene tubes used for experimenting are Canford part number 39-533 cable binding sleeves size 30 Orange. At the back there is a sticker that says:
SES made in EC Helavia A 3 100 code 0212 0025 005 com N+ 004093
Amazingly soft tube material. Can it be bought uncut at any length?
Later addition: The short cut neoprene sleeves bought from Canford have been used as individual support for all metal bars. Sound is nice.
