Signal path:
Male voice singing Into My Arms - Nick Cave - Shure VP64 at 2-3 in - Pleiades Danbridge variable (R,L) high pass filter - Sony TC-D5 Pro - Sennheiser HD 580 - Singer's ears-brain
Firstly the Sony ECM-250 was tried at 8-12 inch with the Pleiades (130Ω,40mH) inline Neutrik module filter.
It sounded fabulous reminding the sparkle of the Nick Cave recording.
It was then wandered whether an as good sound can be created with the Shure VP64 microphone.
The settings found after about 10 minutes on adjustments were:
(54Ω,4mH)
And for a more bass full sound:
(84Ω.4mH)
4mH creates a very high, high pass turnover frequency which creates the sparkle.
It sould be fun but very tedious to wind a very long thin wire to a magnetically inefficient ring core or air core if it is desired not to add a series resistor.
The total or the (R,L) vector is connected across pins 2.3 of XLR. Ie at mic output or preamp input.
While the sound may not be in the same league as the Nick Cave vocals, it is nontheless a very promising effort.
More fun experiments need to be done.
