Do not be disappointed if your dynamic mic sounds dull or bassy. If you compensate for the proximity effect it will shine like a diamond.

Marvin Gaye using Shure SM57

It can be seen on Marvin Gaye "what's going on what's happening brother" - YouTube.


The SM57? can be seen with its windshield.


It is interesting to see Marvin Gaye having the mic below his mouth.


Some experiments were done with a Shure Unidyne III and an impedance matching transformer with proximity compensation and Pleiades K117 pre preamplifier and it was clearly heard that the sound was much better with mouth above mic. Voice was more natural and gave a hint of euphoric diffusion. The same was not the case with Electrovoice RE16. The RE16 sounded better directly in front. Set up is described in the next euroelectron post.

GSM 1 impedance matching transformer with Pleiades K117 pre preamplifier

A GSM 1 transformer was tested with very promising results.


It is housed in an XLR male to female adaptor with switch for low and high output impedance.


There is a black tape with gold letters that reads Line Transformer 500Ω --- 600 Ω/ 50kΩ.


The case carton reads Audio GSM1 e+p Mikrofonadapter, Mitch umschaltbarer Impedanz, e + p Elektrik, 59423 Unna, Germany


Primary inductance was measured 219mH and low secondary 263mH and high secondary 50.3H.


It worked great with Electrovoice RE16 and Shure Unidyne III. It did some proximity effect compensation and the mics sounded best at about 9in.


The hi low switch was very useful and fun to use acting like a boost turbo switch.


For smaller microphone distance lower primary inductance is needed as used in some Pleiades filters and transformers.

The secret of recording a singer in tune, Το μυστικό να ηχογραφιςουμε έναν τραγουδιστή(ια) τονικα σωστά

Πολλές παλαιότερες ηχογραφήσεις όπου ακούγονται απίστευτες φωνές τελείως αφαλτσες έχουν γίνει είτε ζωντανά με τον τραγουδιστή δίπλα στην ορχήστρα, η με αναπαραγωγή της ορχήστρας σε μικρό μεγάφωνο κοντά στην τραγουδίστρια (για παράδειγμα Φίνος Φιλμς), αλλα όχι με ακουστικά.

Το πρόβλημα από οτι φαίνεται δεν ειναι τα ακουστικά αλλα η στάθμη έντασης. 

Έχει αποδειχτεί από το 1930 η και πιο πριν οτι το ύψος ενός τόνου (υποκειμενικη αντίληψη) δεν εξαρτάται μόνο από την συχνότητα (αντικειμενικό ερέθισμα) αλλα και από την ένταση.

Για παράδειγμα όσο πιο δυνατά αναπαράγουμε 440Ηz τόσο πιο χαμηλά από Λα και κοντά στο Λα ύφεση ακούγεται! και αυτό συμβαίνει στον εγκέφαλο μας!

Για να αποφευχθεί διαρροή ήχου ορχηςτρας στο μικρόφωνο φωνής, λογικό φαίνεται την εποχή εκείνη η αναπαραγωγή κοντά στο αυτί του τραγουδιστή να είταν σε χαμηλή στάθμη.

Ίσως πειραματιζόμενοι με ακουστικά , η μικρά μεγάφωνα!, η ζωντανά, μπορούμε να βοηθήσουμε την τραγουδίστρια να ακούει τονικα σωστά άρα και να τραγουδάει σωστά ξεκινώντας από πολύ χαμηλή στάθμη και αν χρειαστεί να αυξήσουμε μέχρι να βρούμε το γλυκύτερο σημείο!
