A very simple way to observe the photoelectric effect?

Just connecting a very high input impedance voltmeter (1GΩ) to 2 electrodes of an electron tube in thermal equilibrium with ambient temperature. For example an EF183.

The time constant or how quickly a maximum reading is reached depends on the intensity of the ambient light. Somewhat like a photon counter.
