Designing from the point of view of listener

A speaker should be cute. And come in colors.

Small so that it is handy like a radio.

Small that no difraction effects occur.

Small so that it acts as a point source with great imaging and depth.

Fullrange so that all sounds are emmited from one point in space without phase delay. Thereby conserving transients.

Fullrange so that Madonna' s voice sounds coming from one drive unit, not half of her voice from a woofer and the other half from a tweeter.

Frequency response should be balanced so that it neither sounds bass or treble heavy.

It can be used near listener or as monitoring speaker for production.

It must have low box coloration. Perhaps linoleum is an advantage at least.

Since loudspeaker can be close to listener cone exclusion need not be very large. If needed a passive filter can be switchable so that response changes from 100Hz - 15KHz to 60Hz - 15KHz for a more balanced, fuller sound, without bass boominess of ported resonant designs with wooden box etc. Wider reponse is at expense of sensitivity. Both states can be switchable at the back of small speaker cube box.

These are some thoughts concerning the linoleum Pleiades Auratone 5C type speaker.
100Hz to 14KHz plus or minus 3 dB has already been achieved with a linoleum made box of light green color. Using the Tesla 5in fullrange drive unit TVM ARX-130-20/4.

The dedicated Pleiades passive filter has not yet been implemented.

The speaker sounds great too connected to the vintage JVC portable radio cassette 9425W amplifier which has such bass boost compensation.

Linoleum is easy to work with and a speaker cabinet can be made without expensive tools. Normal common sense attention to safety should be observed while cutting, gluing, listening etc.

Such speaker can sound loud as it is meant to be close to listener. (Attention to hearing irreversible compromise by high SPLs).

With one transistor, one electron tube or low component amplifiers in class A (electrons flowing all the time) such speakers make the smooth and big detailed sound of class A amplification shine.

The linoleum Pleiades Auratone 7C type speaker has the exact dimensions of Auratone 5C ie 6.5in x 6.5in x (5+3/4)in. It sounds very natural on all genres of music including electronic music. Even a square wave sounds accurate, nice.

It can be used as a truth speaker thanks to the Auratone inventor Jack Wilson or Quicy Jones, Bruce Swedien's comments.
