When theory and practice do not agree, theory is revised.


An example is more than half a century ago when Hollywood sound engineers found that flat electronic frequency response led to muddy and possibly spitty voice soundtracks. They discovered that the game is not flat frequency response from mic to loudspeaker but from actor's, singer's vocal chords to listener's brain. [Lowe, Morgan].
