(Later addition: The linoleum triagle pyramid speaker may have a less flat frequency response than the linoleum cube Auratone 5C type speaker. More experiments needed.)
Related to yesterday's listening tests on linoleum triangular pyramid speaker resting on 1meter x 2meters linoleum carpet (see previous posts). It was also confirmed by hand tapping on linoleum and comparing the sound to hand taping at bare wooden floor.
Taping in wooden floor gives a bare paper dry somewhat high pitched sound.
Taping on linoleum gives a board band sound with a lot of uncolored bass. The uncolored effect of linoleum can be explained from its reasonance damping properties.
Increase of bass radiation can be explained by the 2 meters squared (2m^2) area of linoleum acting as a huge drum or vibrating membrane.
When resting on such base or carpet a tetrahedron pyramid speaker made of linoleum, the excellent vibration to low frequency of the triagular pyramid sides seems to be effectively coupled to the large base area of linoleum carpet thereby substacialy increasing the radiation of low or bass frequencies. Effectively or of the three bass vibrating sides of the triagular pyramid, the base couples its vibration to the carpet surface.
It is like a subwoofer without coloration or reasonace hanging effects smearing transient response.
Bravo to Vicky for observing the effect.
Listening experiments have not been made yet on marble floor with linoleum sheet on top of it or other boundaries of room such as walls with a touching speaker mounted on such wall surface.
Vicky's discovery has the obvious advantage of assisting bass radiation or absorption in a room without visual obstruction as linoleum surface or area is placed on room boundaries.
