It has been tried with the Yamaha electric bass pickup driving directly the low inductance (47mH) of Pleiades V5.
The sound is great with full detail.
Should an even lower input inductance be tried as load to the pickup? The rising high frequency response with be then de emphasized by a high cut filter, rounding clipped peaks.
An even smaller transformer core could be used to simulate magnetic tape saturation?
