At your risk. All safety precautions should be followed for any voltage or current. Ear protection too is extremely important from high sound presure levels.
The Bouyer ST3 is a single ended class A (electrons flowing all the time) amplifier. The particular one is serial number 04 069. The power supply capacitor (12μF,12μF) had been disconnected as it could not be slowly reformed and 2 modern ic axial electrolytic capacitors were connected. A very well built little amplifier. Caution not letting ,while component cleaning, methylated spirit touching the chassis internal paint as it strips off). The yellow green cable of mains had been connected to chassis for ground. And a fuse holder was added housing a fuse of much lower than specified current. At the moment a 500mA is used but it can be lower.
Signal path for this test:
Promise - Sade CD album - Sony CD Walkman line out - Bouyer ST3 speaker out 4Ω - Pleiades linoleum Auratone 5C type speaker with Tesla 4Ω drive unit - reverberant small listening room - listener's brain
The sound is very nice at midrange. There is very little bass or treble.
So the combination with the Pleiades linoleum Auratone 5C type speaker is not a good one. The speaker reveals immediatly deficiency of bass or treble.
Then the Pleiades BD139 one transistor power amplifier was connected. Bass, mid, treble was great. It was thought it is starting to rain at the introduction of Sweetest Taboo - Sade.
This shows clearly the point that electron tubes or transistors have an almost infinite bandwidth for practical audio purposes but external components restrict this [Storey].
The nice Bouyer ST3 amplifier may make a great reverberation chamber power amplifier. Or a guitar amplifier etc.
It may also sound great with bass, treble heavy speakers.
