Fostex M80RP microphone with Pleiades (130Ω,40mH) EQ

Clearly one of the best microphones on the planet.

But if a Pleiades filter is not connected it sounds extremely bass heavy like most good ribbon mics.

When a Pleiades gentle slope high cutoff inline filter is inserted it sounds like a best ribbon combined with a best condenser mic.

Ambient music many many feet away sounded natural without a Pleiades filter.

Signal path for this test:

Male singing voice - Fostex M80 Flatcoil printed ribbon mic at 2-5 in - Pleiades (130Ω, 40mH) inside Neutrik module XLR female to male adaptor - Sony TC-D5 Pro used as balanced preamplifier, mono mode - Sennheiser HD 580 - listener's brain

Very natural. Detailed. No bass heaviness with the Pleiades (R,L) filter. Great transient response. No s, pop problems.

Can be used outdoors where a ribbon mic cannot.

No phantom needed.

Relatively small size.

What more could one wish?
