Fostex M88RP NO.101956 compared to M80RP

Both mics were tested without and then with the Pleiades (130Ω,40mH) gentle slope high pass filter. Without the gentle slope high pass filter sound for close vocals is too bass and mid heavy. This is due to both objective effects such as proximity and voice effort curves as well as subjective (brain perception) such as equal loudness curves. [Lowe, Morgan]

Signal path:

Male voice singing first verse of Who Wants to Live Forever - Queen in the original E minor key - mic at 6-10 in - Pleiades (130Ω,40mH) EQ - Sony TC-D5 Pro preamplifier set to mono - Sennheiser HD 580 - listener's brain

Both mics sounding great. The smaller body M80RP sounds even more natural and more extended at high frequency.
