Adjusting mic levels without using a console

Many microphones can have their direct outputs electrically connected in series-parallel combinations.

As described on Lou Buroughs's book omnidirectional moving coil microphones are not affected in frequency responce by the load connected across the microphone. This is because they are resistance controlled rather than mass controlled.

So it may prove possible to adjust sensitivity by connecting a variable resistor across each mic.

The resultant combination of mics can be connected to a mic input.

For higher sensitivity or less noise it may be preferable to connect between the resultant mic and normal mic input a Pleiades V series low noise pre preamplifier.
