A more modern definition of High Fidelity

High Fidelity is faithful sound reproduction from producer's brain to listener's brain.

This is not as tough as it sounds. For example on might ask the producer to listen and comment if this is what she-he had in mind.

Adapting Newton's phrase, if we can see further is by standing upon shoulders of giants.

Such giants on audio engineering are the early motion picture engineers who applied the importance of flat frequency response not only from mic to loudspeaker but from actor's, singer's vocal chords to listener's brain.

And of course Fletcher, Munson and the father of modern psychoacoustics, S.S. Stevens.
