There is nothing wrong with transistor amplifiers

If 1 RF transistor is used per stage they sound very similar to electron tubes.

A one transistor single ended non feedback stage will have progressively gentle increase of second harmonic and then higher order ones when the input signal gets higher. Just like nature. So trumpets will sound like trumpets and smooth strings will sound smooth strings.

An example is the one only transistor power amplifier in class A. The Pleiades 2N3053. It can directly drive a PHILIPS AD5046N 800ohm speaker to beautiful sound.

Power consumption is very low. A few milliamperes. Although output power is low, loudness is high due to linearity at small levels and progressive non linearity at higher levels.
