Am interesting photo of Roy Orbison with coat absorbers behind him

We break a sound wave with absorbers away from the wall. If they were touching the wall they would be of no use as the particle velocity there is zero.


Like breaking sea waves by barriers away from the shore. If they were at the shore it would be too late.
