On many occasions where nice Pleiades recoding examples were traced back, it was found that the microphone transformer was external and the cable sending to the reel to reel electron tube recorder was of the order of 1 meter.
A longer one should cut treble.
But it seems the existence of one meter cable with its capacitance has a beneficial effect. Perhaps reducing HF reasonance or creating one?
On most of these recordings Grampian ribbon mics 25-50Ω were used.
The external input or mic transformer was either a Sowter 1:20. In fact a pair of these feeding the Ferrograph series 6 for blumlein stereo mic technique.
Or one Garmpian mic feeding the input of the autotransformer of Grundig GDM-311, see yesterday's posts. The secondary cable and male plug left intact to feed a Grundig TK-14 or Telefunken Magnetophon automatic.
Later addition. Not very sure which transformers where used at that time. But these should be relevant guidelines.
