AKG D130 with Western Electric D163851 transformer

Great sound too.

Signal path:

AKG D130 E - WE D163851 1:2 (1H:4H) preinput transformer - Sony TC-D5 Pro - Sennheiser HD580

Much louder sound. But since there was some distortion not much difference could be heard between using the transformer or not.

Initially there was somewhat distortion and bass heaviness.

The SONY peak LED was flashing too often. So it was decided to reduce rec level as seen on VU meters and increasing the headphone output instead.

Distortion disappeared, much of bass heaviness too.

The greatest difference with or without the 1:2 step up transformer in sound quality is when using the mic at 1in.

Much less bass heaviness, great protected sound.
