is possibly that the master recording had been made in analog domain. This made the sound on the barely nice side.
Now that too many recordings are made in digital domain none wants to hear of CDs. A reason is not only free download.
Who would like to pay for something that sounds so bad reproduced in a class D (electrons not flowing all the time) amplifier the end result sounding like chewing sand?
Well digital has brought the miracle of Internet. A future problem may be how to feed with energy all these power hungry machines.
For comparison a tiny bird can only eat a few sesame seeds and fly quicker than a bus from a seashore distinct to another. With its so old technology it can almost travel for free.
As for the music industry it is amazing how a giant used its power to harm itself.
What to do?
Who knows?
Perhaps recording a small analog master tape and selling it to someone else on eBay?
