Is it possible to use gaped washers for winding single ended output transformers?

This may be handy if an output transformer is wound for a (single ended) class A (electrons flowing all the time) amplifier with one active device. The air gap prevents magnetic core saturation by DC.

Possible uses for example Pleiades V6 mic booster pre amplifier (although it may not be needed as a small anode current exists anyway, Pleiades BD139 power amplifier etc.
