Just one fullrange speaker may well be the best communication tool between a music electrical signal and our brain

For example the Tesla 5in fullrange drive unit mounted on a linoleum triangular pyramid Vicky Pleiades enclosure.

It is already being used as a tool for critical listening.

It works just by connecting it even to headphones out. For example iPad's headphones out.

At the moment sound quality of DX7 patches is assessed by listing on YouTube examples:

Even sounds with many seconds of reverberation are clearly heard.
iPad and speaker are just on the table.

Thinking about it is more or less one clear ray of sound from a 5in speaker to our ears and brain.

There is some monitoring room revebaration too but it is too small as the speaker is used as nearlfield monitor. But even room revebaration sounds very clear from such a nice almost point source speaker.

On the other extreme even the shortest in time transients sound great too.

Funny as it seems the fisherman with a battery transistor radio in the boat has a more critical quality reproducing system than most of the recording studios except the best ones which use such critical monitoring too.

Only problems with the transistor radio is the usually battery saving class B push pull amplifier wity negative feedback or more modern class D amplifiers. And the rectangular shape of the radio with its hard plastic surfaces. Such problems are on the way to be solved with a triangular pyramid and the soft vibration absorbing linoleum.

Class A amplification (electrons flowing all the time) especially with as few active or passive electronic components as possible sends everything else to the cleaners.
