This is how we can derive possibly all chords without having to remember anything.
We start with bass.
C or Do for example.
The default 1 3 5 rule gives the chord:
Do Mi Sol
If we extend this to 1 3 5 7:
Do Mi Sol Si
If we the extend as much as we can ie 1 3 5 7 9 11 13 (note the numbers are seven):
Do Mi Sol Si Re Fa La (all types of chords spring from this), we write:
Do 3 5 7 9 4 6 as Fa is the 4th note from Do and La the 6th
In order to learn all ingredients in music we do the same for all bass notes:
Re Fa La Do Mi Sol Si
Mi Sol Si Re Fa La Do
Etc
Whether a nite will be sharp or flat will depend on the scale used.
We do not have to use all ingredients. Usually 2 or 3 give the most profound, magical and a ethereal result.
For example:
Re6 (means bass D, the 6th Si, and the usually taken 3rd Fa)
Mi7 (means bass E, the 7th Re and the usually taken 3rd sol)
La79 (means bass La, the 7th Sol, the 9th Si, 3rd and 5th also taken)
From the beginning of Qui Tolis - Mass in B minor - Bach
Make Shure to only F# as the scale is B minor.
Other examples:
California girls - Beach Boys:
Si means bass Si and 135 or Si Re Fa
Si246 means Bass Si and Do Mi La
Make Shure to play C#, D#, F# as the scale is B major
