The following setup, signal path was tried today:
Philips or Sennheiser omnidirectional microphone - 500Ω to 50KΩ input transformer - Pleiades K117 - (input variable series resistor for volume control) Pleiades 2N3053 powered by 1.3V - Sennheiser HD580
Even with just 2 transistors full ambience from many meters away from the building could be clearly heard.
The sound was very treble heavy.
Rethinking about it, it is because the input inductance of the mic transformer used is low and the mic impedance used is relatively high, 600-800Ω.
It will be retried with other mic and INOUT transformers
The sound as expected was a live as real.
