This is not about giving away the beautiful non ordinary chords of Just Hold Me - Maria Mena
It is just a rule of thumb so that you may find them yourself.
(See also rule of thumb is music part 1).
This simple rule can be ised for any musical piece be it a refined pop song or a refined symphony. If you use attention, correct listening and judgment you may find the exact harmony, not just something that sounds very close or close.
The rule is choosing which numbers sound correct above the bass for every bass. The list of possible numbers is 1 3 5 7 9 11 13. (Further increaseimg from 13 gets us back to the same notes). Now for example 9 means nine notes above the bass. This 9th can be played anywhere above the bass. Any note could also be black, sharp or flat ect depending on the scale or key of the musical composition. But we always refer to or think white or natural notes.
So from the beginning of Just Hold Me (all Fs are sharp since the key is D Dorian):
First bass at 0:00 is:
A
The chord (right hand for example) could include any of the notes A C E G B D F but it only includes C E B.
Next bass is E. The chord could include any of E G B D F A but the brilliant composer chose to include only B D F.
Next bass is D. The chord could include D F A C E G B but it only includes D F A or A D F just the invertion of D F A.
Then A bass, same as above.
E the chord could include E G B D F A but only includes D F A or A D F.
Find yourself all the other chords...
