Giving a better sound to hearing impaired

For example a tiny analog transistor radio relatively near their ears should sound miles better than a modern flat TV with a class D amplifier.

Is it possible by technology that they do not wear any earphones. Just holding an attractive palm sized sound reproducer wireless receiver.

And that we arrange that our voices are captured by good microphone techniques to be transmitted to them, the little box, nearby the impaired persons ears. Or they might hang this from their neck.

And we hung nice little transmiting microphones. Just like a TV production.

A more funny scenario would be them holding a nice moving coil shotgun microphone such as the academy award winning Electrovoice and then pointing it towards the wanted sound source.

Or as few transistors possible good mic and speaker quality hearing aids...
