Is manual gain adjustment (or gain riding) the best look ahead limiter or compressor?

Possibly so.


We may learn the score or know the music by heart. And adjust recording level accordingly. It is an art in itself. It exersices great motor skills, artistic taste.


Not using electronic compression by a machine seems to sound more big, alive and there is edge.
