At recoding, bass and treble must be reduced at a gentle slope with respect to frequency.
This is because at reproduction which is usually at louder acoustic intensity the human brain will add bass and treble.
Also when we sing softly and expressively, the human voice production mechanism produces more bass and treble.

A bit like Parthenon on the hill of Akropolis in Athens. It is built "wrong" so that it appears great to the viewer's brain. For example columns are not parallel so that they look parallel.
